i am a little biased on this query because my parents weren't meant to have kids. they really weren't. sad, but true. they aren't nurturing the way my friend's parents are. they expect too much of me. maybe the fact that they couldn't get pregnant was a sign. they just really don't know what it means to be selfless. to put a child first, instead of yourself. and because of that, i've been grown up since i was about 7. i had to be.
i honestly think most people feel social obligation to have kids. that or the biological clock feeds them romanticized ideals about what having kids is like. it's no picnic. they're loud, messy, annoying, a liability, a responsibility, they change EVERYTHING. and it gets even harder as they get older. not easier.
you shouldn't have a baby because you're worried you're running out of time to do so, or because you love your husband/boyfriend/girlfriend/wife what have you. you should have one because your joy comes from providing for others and you are ready to take on the financial and ethical responsibilities that come with it.
